KYC/AML Policy
Last updated: March 2026
Overview
Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) verification is required for certain withdrawal thresholds on Bitcoin.diy. This policy explains when verification is needed, what the process involves, and how your identity data is handled.
Our goal is to balance user privacy with regulatory compliance. For most users completing educational quizzes and making small withdrawals, no identity verification is needed beyond email and phone verification.
When Is Identity Verification Required?
Identity verification may be required in the following situations:
- High-value withdrawals: When your total withdrawals exceed a certain threshold within a given period, you may be asked to verify your identity before further withdrawals are processed.
- Suspicious activity: If our fraud detection systems flag unusual activity on your account, identity verification may be required to reinstate full account functionality.
- Regulatory requirements: Changes in local or international regulations may require us to verify the identity of users in certain jurisdictions.
The specific thresholds that trigger KYC requirements may change over time and may vary by jurisdiction. You will be clearly notified before any verification is required.
The Verification Process
When identity verification is required, here is what to expect:
Step 1: Notification
You will see a clear notification on your dashboard explaining that verification is needed and why. No verification happens without your knowledge.
Step 2: Document Submission
You will be asked to provide a government-issued photo ID (passport, national ID card, or driver's license). This is submitted securely through our verification provider.
Step 3: Liveness Check
A brief selfie or liveness check confirms that you are the person on the ID document. This prevents identity theft and protects your account.
Step 4: Review
Verification is typically processed within minutes. In some cases, manual review may take up to 24 hours. You will be notified of the result.
