Who is Parker Lewis?

Parker Lewis is a Duke University graduate who started his career on Wall Street during the Great Financial Crisis. That experience, watching the traditional financial system buckle under its own contradictions, planted the seed that would eventually lead him to Bitcoin. After Wall Street, he moved into restructuring and hedge fund work in Dallas, Texas, where he began studying Bitcoin seriously.

In 2017, Lewis entered the Bitcoin industry professionally, joining Unchained Capital as Head of Business Development. Unchained specializes in Bitcoin financial services, including multisig custody and lending. It was from this vantage point, building Bitcoin financial infrastructure while serving clients who needed to understand why Bitcoin matters, that Lewis started writing.

His Gradually, Then Suddenly essay series began in July 2019, originally intended as a weekly newsletter to support his work at Unchained. What emerged was something far more significant: a 17-essay series published over 18 months that became one of the most important collections of Bitcoin economic writing ever produced. The series explains, from first principles, why Bitcoin works as money, why it obsoletes alternatives, and why its adoption follows an S-curve pattern that feels gradual until it suddenly isn't.

The essays influenced notable figures including Michael Saylor, who has cited Lewis's work as instrumental in his understanding of Bitcoin. In December 2023, Lewis published the essays as a book, Gradually, Then Suddenly, compiling and expanding his arguments into a definitive volume. The book has become essential reading for anyone trying to understand Bitcoin's economic case, not through speculation or hype, but through clear, first-principles reasoning.

Bitcoin obsoletes all other money because economic systems converge on a single currency, and Bitcoin has the most credible monetary properties.
